The Karachi Port handled 186,154 tonnes of cargo comprising 151,774 tonnes of import cargo and 34,380 tonnes of export cargo including 5,158 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 151,774 tonnes comprised of 43,339 tonnes of containerised cargo; 24,463 tonnes of bulk cargo and 83,972 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,380 tonnes comprised of 24,759 tonnes of containerised cargo; 423 tonnes of general cargo and 9,198 tonnes of bulk cargo. A total number of 5,158 containers comprising 3,143 containers import and 2,015 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 1,073 of 20's and 1,031 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and 4 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 809 of 20's and 306 of 40's loaded containers while and 164 of 20's 215 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. Five ships with four container ships and one fertiliser carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Two vessels carrying container ships respectively are currently at the berths.
The total export cargo of 32,319 tonnes includes 6,406 tonnes of cement and 25,913 tonnes of containerised cargo. Four ships namely CV MSC Lina, CV Belgica, CV MSC Jade and MT Malibu with containers and edible oil respectively sail out to sea during last 24 hours, while another ship namely CV UASC Shuwaikh carrying containers is expected to sail on Saturday morning.
A total number of ten vessels viz CV UASC Shuwaikh, CV MSC Lina, CV Belgica, CV MSC Jade, MV Fisher-D, MV BBC Arizona, MV Hawk, MV Stolt Zulu, MT Malibu and MT Gas Husky are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, palm oil, project cargo, chemicals and LPG respectively during last 24 hours. As many as two ships namely Lantau Arrow and Anoushka with containers and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. A total number of one vessel viz CV Lantau Arrow carrying containers is expected to take berth at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Saturday.
