Remembering one's achievements not only provides with the feeling of encouragement and elation but it also provides an opportunity to have a look at the deficiencies of the past, taking lesson from them and making the future plans yet more carefully. The review of PIDC activities has an added dimension because the progress and development of PIDC is in fact a reflection of growth and development of Pakistan.
No doubt the industrial growth of any nation is the barometer of its economic strength, and PIDC is the catalyst that has provided economic strength to the country through the industrial development accomplished by it all through since its establishment in 1952. It is no charade; it is no masquerade.
Not only as Federal Minister for Production but also as Chairman of Board of Director of PIDC, the entire spread of PIDC operations is in my focus. The shine and glow of the entire spectrum of industry in Pakistan is due to the dedicated services of PIDC. Point out to any sector, Engineering, Shipbuilding, Fertiliser, Cement, Chemical etc, their roots lead to PIDC. It will not be wrong if it is said that PIDC is the name without mention of which no discussion, review or analysis of industrial matrix could find any credibility.
PIDC has stood all the tests and delivered to the nation timely whenever & whatever tasked. Establishing its worth in creating the firm/concrete industrial base, it has also proved equally good and effective in its new role of acting as a "Primary vehicle for facilitating industrialisation by creating enabling environments". Under this revised mandate PIDC has ventured quite successfully and effectively.
The Sectoral Development Companies, set up under Public Private Partnership, have proved quite beneficial for the industry as on one hand the Skill and Craftsmanship available in abundance in less developed and far-flung areas has been tapped gainfully by developing their Skills to modern standards and on the other hand provide this skilled HR, well adept in modern technology, to the industry, resultantly enhancing the social and economic strength of the nation. The efforts of PIDC are laudable and deserve all appreciation and encouragement at all levels. At the same time there is much more required to be done by PIDC. Indeed there is no limit to development heights and healthy nations always aspire for reaching the zenith. As the Minister Incharge it is my priority to expand the scope of functions of PIDC by exploring further avenues of facilitating and strengthening the national economy.
The initiative of Business Recorder in bringing up this supplement is commendable. I hope the supplement will prove a push in furtherance of PIDC mission of serving the nation by way of bringing up more Public Private Partnership set-ups through investment from entrepreneur lured through this supplement.
