Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yaseen Farooq on Monday admitted that capital city has witnessed increase in crimes during last few months. "The capital city has witnessed increase in crime including robberies, dacoities and car lifting in the last few months", he said while responding to a question at a press conference.
He said police would make all possible efforts to curb criminal gangs active in the city and added the high-ups of the city police had made a comprehensive plan in this regard. The SSP the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the capital police has busted three notorious gangs of dacoits who were allegedly involved in cab, ladies purse snatching and looting valuables from the houses after making inmates hostage at gunpoint.
There were complaints about dacoities in various areas after which Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Bani Amin Khan assigned special task to CIA police to arrest the criminals involved in such crimes, he said.
The SSP said that special teams under supervision of SP (Investigation) Chaudhry Liaqat Ali were constituted which included In-Charge CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ali, Zulfiqar Ahmed, Azhar Mehmud ASIs Riaz Macon and other police officials. He said that after hectic efforts during the last two weeks, these teams succeeded in nabbing 12 criminals who were involved in snatching cabs from their drivers after hiring them, taking away purses as well as jewellery of women while riding on motorbikes with helmets and looting houses at gun points.
Police also recovered eight pistols along with ammunition, three snatched Suzuki Mehran vehicles (LXD-4887, RIB-4732, LRM-387), cash received after selling other vehicles, gold ornaments, looted items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees and foreign currency including 6,000 dollars and 600 Euro from them, he said. The SSP said that during the preliminary investigation, these nabbed criminals have confessed to have committed 18 dacoities in areas of various police stations including Secretariat, Margallah, Koral, Shehzad town, Nilore, Ramna, Shalimar, Industrial area and Sabzi Mandi.
