Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) has expressed grave concerns over the action of filing of FIR by Government of Punjab against M/s Midas (Pvt) Ltd and its Chief Executive Inam Akbar. PBA in its statement strongly condemned the unprofessional and unnecessary step taken by the Punjab Government.
It was stated that commercial disputes should be resolved in an amicable manner in the first instance and in case of failure of amicable resolution may be resolved through various civil modes of dispute resolution. Resorting to criminal remedies in commercial matters is completely unwarranted and disproportionate given the circumstances at hand.
The said advertising agency is engaged in advertising business and is as such accredited with PBA, enjoying a good reputation in the media industry. The Government of Punjab while bypassing all other modes of dispute resolution, which would have been more expedient and effective has resorted to an extreme and entirely unnecessary step, which may unduly tarnish the reputation of an otherwise well-reputed business.
It was stated that billions of rupees of media industry have gone on stack due to the uncalled for and unwarranted action of Punjab government. PBA urges the Chief Minister, Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif to constitute a joint committee comprising of the representatives of Government of Punjab and the representative bodies of media industry in order to get the matter resolved amicably. PBA demands the Chief Minister to immediately withdraw the FIR lodged against the advertising agency, Midas (Pvt) Ltd.-PR
