At least four persons including a cop were killed in separate incidents in different areas of the metropolis here on Monday. According to police and rescue sources, a policeman deployed in Anti Extremist Cell of the Crime Investigation Department lost his life in an armed ambush in the limits of Baghdadi police station.
The deceased, who was identified as Mohammad Siddiq, 30, was targeted near his residence in Moosa Lane, Lyari. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for autopsy. Police suspected that the members of banned People's Amn Committee (PAC) might be involved in the murder. Further investigation is underway.
Two alleged members of Lashari group were gunned down inside their residence in Jahanabad area in the jurisdiction of Pak Colony police station. The victims were identified as Liaquat Ali Lashari, 34, son of Abbas Ali Lashari and his father-in-law, Ali Mohammad Ahmed, 53, son of Raheem Dad. The bodies were shifted to CHK for medico legal formalities.
Following the killings, tension prevailed in Jahanabad and its other surrounding areas where all shops and markets were closed. Later, heavy contingent of law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident. Police suspected that PAC gangsters might be involved in the murder as a revenge of the killing of their man, Jauhar Magsi, who was allegedly targeted by Lashari group in said area on last Saturday.
Meanwhile, a case 237/12 was registered on the complaint of deceased Ali's son Rashid Ali against unidentified persons. Police sources said the law enforcers have rolled up their sleeves to launch overnight search operation in the area A three-day-old tortured body of a youth was found from North Nazimabad in the jurisdiction of Taimuria police station. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and later moved to Edhi morgue. No case was registered till filing of this report.
