HYDERABAD: Divisional Director Information, Hyderabad, Sawai Khan Chhalgari, said that for a truly democratic society, independent journalism was essential and the present Sindh government also believed in freedom of the press that's why to ensure the safety of journalists, the ruling party had tabled "Sindh Protection of Journalists and other Media Practitioners Bill 2021" in the Sindh Assembly.
He was talking to media persons during his visit to Makli Press Club Thatta and Awami Press Club Thatta along with Deputy Director Information Hyderabad Shehzad Shaikh and District Information Officer Thatta Rafiq Ahmed Solangi.
The Divisional Director Information said that journalists highlighted public issue fearlessly. He underlined the need of highlighting people-welfare projects of the Sindh Government so that people could get maximum benefits of these projects.
Chhalgari said that after the Sindh Protection of Journalists and other Media Practitioners Bill 2021, more and effective protection would be provided to the journalist which was indeed the best step taken by the Sindh government especially the Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah in the interest of journalists. Besides, the Sindh government and the Information Department were working to provide medical and financial assistance, residential colony and other basic facilities to journalists.
Earlier, Divisional Director Information Hyderabad Sawai Khan Chhalgari along with Deputy Director Information Hyderabad Shehzad Sheikh inspected the plot allotted for District Information Office Thatta in DC Thatta Secretariat. He said that the construction work of Information Office Thatta would be started this month and would be completed in a year. He directed the District Information Officer Thatta to remain in close contact of concerned officers of Provincial Building Department and in case of difficulties (if any) inform him immediately so that same could be got resolved by contacting higher authorities.
