At least five persons including two political activists and a woman were killed in separate incidents at various parts of the metropolis, here on Tuesday. According to police and rescue sources, a senior worker of Sunni Tehrik (ST) namely Abdul Saleem was injured while his co-worker Adnan lost his life in a drive-by shooting at Chiragh Hotel in Landhi early Tuesday.
Police said armed riders started firing when Saleem along with Adnan was sitting near a hotel. Resultantly, both sustained bullet wounds and were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where Adnan succumbed to his injuries. Police said that they fell victims to ongoing spree of targeted killings. A case was registered and police have initiated probe in this connection.
A 35-year-old man namely Muhammad Ali son of Shaukat Ali was killed in an armed ambush near Tauheed Chowk located in Lines Area in the limits of Brigade police station. Police said the deceased, who was said to be associated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was hit by multiple bullets and was shifted to JPMC for post-mortem.
Following the killings, scores of MQM men rushed to the hospital. SHO Humayun Khan said two armed walkers targeted the victim when he was taking a nap outside his residence at Street 69 located at Jinnah Road. He said the deceased was Joint Unit in-charge of Unit 53 and used to run a compressor shop in the area.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old man namely Khadim Hussain son of Saifur Rehman was assaulted by unknown armed riders when he was on way to drop his two relatives namely Naila, 10 and Warda, 12 in a seminary. Resultantly, all three sustained bullet wounds and were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where Khadim succumbed to his injures during treatment.
Police said the victim's son in his statement revealed that they were engaged in a family dispute in their hometown Charsadda and his father might have been killed for the said reason. Police said the deceased was employed in State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and was residing in Shershah area. A case was registered on the complaint of the victim's son against unknown culprits. A bullet-riddled body of a youth was found at Northern Bypass in the limits of Surjani Town police station. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained.
They said the victim was kidnapped and then murdered with a sharp-edged weapon after being subjected to severe torture. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification. Similarly, another tortured body of a woman was found near Malik Aga Hotel at Super Highway in the jurisdiction of Sacchal police station. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while culprits strangulated her with her yashmak. The body was moved to Edhi Morgue after legal formalities at CHK. Police suspected that she might have been murdered over personal grounds. No case was registered till filing of this report.
