ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Dasu hydropower project is one of the projects which will immensely benefit the country by giving 1200 billion units of electricity upon completion by 2028.

In a tweet with a video clip of project briefing, the Prime Minister expressed the confidence that during the decades of dams which began in 2018, all projects will be completed.

He said Dasu Hydro Power Project which is the most significant one will add 1200 billion units of electricity and it will guarantee environmental conservation besides economic and social development of Pakistan.

The Prime Minister said that it will benefit the industrial sector the most, besides the people by generating cheap and environment friendly electricity.

According to Anwar-ul-Haq, the project director, the required land for the dam has been acquired and hoped that the first unit of the project will be connected with the system by 2025 which will generate 2160 mw of electricity. Upon completion of phase-II of the project, it will generate a total of 4320 mw of electricity by 2029, he added.

Muzzamil Hussain, chairman Water +ACY- Power Development Authority (WAPDA), said that more than Rs 50 billion is being spent on the project which also includes construction of the road networks, building education institutions and health facilities for the people of the area.
