Taiwan stocks extended gains and ended 1.56 percent higher on Thursday, with Hon Hai jumping 4.24 percent after Taiwan's government asked the company for more detail on a planned tie-up with Japan's Sharp. The main TAIEX index rose 113.9 points to 7,433.70, after opening up 0.3 percent.
Electronics shares gained 2.14 percent. Quanta Computer climbed 4.5 percent after posting a 4 percent gain in July unconsolidated sales, while rival Compal was up 6.9 percent, the maximum allowed in a day. Banking shares rose 1.54 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up by T$0.061 to trade at T$29.926.
