The government is likely to notify up to Rs 2 per litre increase in the prices of Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) products effective from August 16, Petroleum Ministry official said. According to sources the price of Motor Sprit (petrol) is expected to increase by Rs 1.25 per litre, High Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs 1.30 per litre, Light Speed Diesel Oil (LSDO) by Rs 1 per litre, Kerosene Oil (KO) by Rs 1.4 per litre, while, High Octane Blending Component (HOBC) would be raised by Rs 2 per litre.
This is because price of crude oil has increased by $2 per barrel in the international market, official said and added that the Gulf market has witnessed a substantial increase in the price of crude oil as well as petroleum products in few weeks and price of crude oil increased by $2 per barrel, from $100.5 to $102.5 per barrel.
Currently different POL products are being sold on following prices: HOBC Rs 120.16 per litre, Premium Rs 93.57 per litre, High Speed Diesel Rs 101.79 per litre, Light Speed Diesel Rs 90.11 per litre and Kerosene Oil Rs 92.83 per litre. If the government is increasing the POL prices from August 16, HOBC would be sold at Rs 122.16 per litre, petrol at Rs 94. 82 per litre, LSDO at Rs 90.83 per litre, HSDO at Rs 103.91 per litre and Kerosene oil at Rs 94.19 per litre.
According to sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources in line with the international crude oil prices trend, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has calculated an increase of Rs 1.25 per litre in Petrol price, Rs 1.30 per litre in HSDO, Rs 1 per litre in LSDO, Rs 1.4 per litre in Kerosene Oil and Rs 2 per litre in HOBC price.
