Like elsewhere in the country, preparations for Independence Day celebrations have also reached to its peak in Khyber Pakthunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) where people are being found busy in decorating their houses and vehicles with national flags and stickers to celebrate this momentous day with national enthusiasm on Tuesday (tomorrow). The people and tribesmen are decorating houses, buildings, markets, shops and vehicles with national flags, stickers and fancy lights to express their love for the homeland created by Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on 14th August, 1947 after numerous sacrifices by our forefathers during Pakistan Movement.
Special stalls in Qisa Khwani in City, Laiqat bazaars in cantonment have been set up where customers can be seen in large number buying national flags, stickers and badges to celebrate Independence Day with great pop and show. Great rush of buyers are being seen on stalls and shops especially decorated and designed for Independence Day.
Sharif Khan, owner of such a shop in Qissa Khawani Bazaar told APP on Sunday that he had been running this business for the past 40 years and people are showing great enthusiasm in buying the Independence Days materials this year. This year I sold thousands of flags, badges, stricter and other material and enthusiasm of children are encouraging, he remarked.
Mujeeb Khan, another stall owner, said the shopkeepers in past few years were found reluctant to decorate the bazaars and markets with illuminations and buntings due to terrorism threats, but due to improvement of law and order situation this year in Peshawar the enthusiasm of people and shopkeepers are very encouraging and positive.
Also, the transporters are being seen decorating their vehicles with national flags, colourful stickers and banners inscribed with Independence Day greetings. Khurshid Alam, a rickshaw driver, said that he has already hoisted national flag on his rickshaw top to show our love with Pakistan. Children and students are their main customers, who in order to celebrate Independence Day enthusiastically, buy stickers and badges and decorate their bicycles with flags and stickers.
People especially schoolchildren were seen buying the Independence Day material in Saddar Bazaar. I am buying a national flag to hoist it on the roof of my house to celebrate the Independence Day with great pop and show, said Ehtisam Qaiser, a class 10 student.
He said my friends are also buying stickers and badges and we will jointly celebrate Independence Day with national zeal this year. Most of the cars, rickshaws, motorcycles and busses plying on the city roads can be seen decorated with national flags and stickers.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has also chalked out special programmes in connection with Independence Day.
