HYDERABAD: The Inspector General (IG) Sindh police A D Khwaja has acknowledged that the police have failed to arrest former SP Rao Anwar who is accused for killing Naqeebullah Mehsood in a fake encounter in Malir, Karachi.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday at a sports event at the police headquarters, the IG acknowledged that the police were responsible to arrest Anwar. "Yet this is also a fact that we have so far not succeeded in nabbing him.

We have used all our means to track and arrest Anwar but we could not catch him," he admitted. He told that the police have informed the Supreme Court, which was hearing a suo-moto case in the alleged fake encounter of Mehsood, that location of Anwar's Whatsapp calls could not be traced.

Replying to a question, the IG said if the police received other complaints against Anwar they would investigate those complaints. "If any police officer has done anything wrong, we will take action against that officer," he assured while pointing out that the police officers had been nominated in FIRs in Karachi and Sukkur.

Talking about the forensic policing, Khwaja said the police required more training in the forensic science and more equipment and facilities for their forensic labs.

He said if the accused persons were not getting convicted from the courts, the police department alone were not responsible for that outcome. Responding to a question, he said the police chief he could not reform the police laws because it was responsibility of the provincial assembly.

"Even reforming the police department was only possible after the government's approval," he observed. Earlier, the IG attended 'National Kyokushin Karate Championship' in which the policemen from Hyderabad police participated. SSP Hyderabad Peer Muhammad Shah and other officials of the police and notable persons attended the event.
