ISLAMABAD: The National Tariff Commission (the “Commission”) has initiated an inquiry under Section 8 of The National Tariff Commission Act, 2015 on the request of Herbion Pakistan (Pvt) Limited, (the “Applicant”).
The Applicant is a manufacturer of herbal extracts including the extracts from Ivy Leaves and Tribulus. The Applicant in its application has requested for tariff protection against the import of herbal extracts from Ivy Leaves (PCT: 1302.1900) and Tribulus (PCT: 1302.1900, 2938.9090) by way of increase in customs duties on it in order to discourage their import and encourage its local extraction by way of increase in customs duty. According to the Applicant this extraction involves an industrial process using other additives. The product/extracts are then used in herbal medicine for common cold, bronchitis and other respiratory conditions.
The Commission would welcome views, suggestions and proposals from all parties having an interest in the business relating to or associated with the import, manufacturing, marketing and use of extracts from Ivy Leaves and Tribulus. Views/suggestions may be sent within fifteen days of publication of this public notice, to the Secretary, NTC, 4th Floor, State Life Building No.5, Blue Area, Islamabad. A virtual public hearing on the issue is scheduled to be held on September 21, 2021 at 11 am.
Further, all parties having an interest in the business relating to or associated with the import, manufacturing, marketing and use of extracts from Ivy Leaves and Tribulus extracts are hereby advised to get themselves registered with NTC at [email protected] or [email protected] latest by September 14, 2021 for participation in the public hearing by providing names of the participants with their email, telephone numbers (Cell/LL) and fax numbers, which is scheduled via video conferencing on September 21, 2021 at 11am. The comments and suggestions may be supported with requisite, information and documentary evidence(s), which must be brought to the public hearing. The views not supported with reliable documentary evidence(s) shall not be considered.—PR
