KARACHI: Karachi's Malir River went out of control submerging the nearby road with authorities directing the people to use alternative routes on Sunday. The river burst its banks and the water submerged the Causeway Road that connects Qayyum Abad with Korangi Industrial Area. Traffic officials have closed routes from Malir Wilayat Shah Mazar to Murtaza Chorangi and Baloch Colony to Brooks Chorangi.

It is advised that the people going from Qayyum Abad to Korangi Industrial Area must use Brooks Chorangi route while Quaidabad route is an alternative passageway for the people travelling from Malir Court to Murtaza Chorangi. Police mobiles have been deployed around the Malir River and all kind of traffic on road leading toward the river has been banned for now.

The intermittent rain with brief heavy spells also submerged roads in port city with rainwater exposing the drainage system. The Friday monsoon spell, the third spell of the current season killed five people as heavy rain turned Karachi into a deluge with mega city's main arteries were inundated by the rainwater.

Five people were electrocuted in rain-related incidents with hundreds of feeders of Karachi Electric tripped plunging the commercial capital of Pakistan into darkness. Among the victims was a four-year-old girl who was electrocuted in Clifton. The other deceased included Wajid, 35, who was electrocuted near a lighthouse in Baldia Town, Yaqeen Khan, 42, who was also electrocuted at his house in Baldia Town and Sabir was electrocuted in Liaquatabad area in the rain spell, which started early Saturday.
