LAHORE: There is no let up in the spread of coronavirus, as out of 23,343 tests conducted during the last 24 hours, 1,784 fresh infections and 27 fatalities were reported in the province taking the tally of cases to 403,158 and death toll to 12,067.

The Punjab government has already imposed restrictions in the 15 high virus prevalent districts till September 15, restricting business activities, closure of shrines and indoor marriage ceremonies, travel curbs and closure of educational institutions.

With the recovery of 1,235 more virus patients, the number of recovered patients in the province reached to 364,733. On the other hand, with the 3438 recoveries, the number of recovered patients has reached to 1064319 showing recovery rate of 90 percent.

As per breakup of corona cases and deaths in major cities of the province, Lahore has so far reported 204,267 cases and 4,781 deaths, Rawalpindi 35,134 cases and 1,898 deaths, Faisalabad 24,198 cases and 1,212 deaths, Multan 20,434 cases and 893 deaths, Bahawalpur 9,404 cases and 262 deaths, Gujranwala 9,525 cases and 526 deaths, Muzaffargarh 2,759 cases and 348 deaths, Rahim Yar Khan 7,390 cases and 290 deaths, Sargodha 9,720 cases and 306 deaths, Sheikhupura 4,466 cases and 141 deaths and Sialkot reported 8,282 cases and 244 deaths.

Terming vaccination as the only and effective treatment against corona, a spokesman of Health department asked the people to get vaccinated and help the government control the pandemic. The government is utilizing all resources to make lives of citizens safe, he added. There are ample stocks of vaccines at all vaccination centers, he added.

Moreover, the Board of Governors (BoGs) of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in its 47th meeting here on Monday approved a Rs 1634 million budget for the financial year 2021-22. More than 14 percent of the total budget will be spent on research.

The meeting, chaired by the former Chief Justice of Pakistan, former Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani was attended by UHS VC Prof Javed Akram, Gohar Ejaz, Prof Maroof Aziz, Dr Asad Zaheer and representatives of provincial health and finance departments whereas Professor Salima Hashmi, Andleeb Abbas and Professor Anwar A Khan participated through video link. UHS Treasurer Baquee Bin Hanif presented the budget.
