The 66th Independence Day celebrations were observed throughout Faisalabad Division with national enthusiasm and fervour. The day was dawn with the recitation of Holy Quran in the main mosques and prayers for the martyrs of Pakistan Movement. The main function of flag hoisting was held in Commissioner's Complex Faisalabad at 9.00am.
MPAs Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Juel Aamir Sahutra, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Acting Commissioner Naseem Sadiq, CPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana, veterans of Pakistan Movement Sheikh Bashir Ahmad and Haji Bashir Ahmad, officers from various Government Departments, educationists, students from local educational institutions, boy scouts and girl guides along with elite of the town including people from different walks of life participated in the ceremony.
The girl guides, contingents of police and Prisons Department presented march past and saluted before the national flag, while a variety of vehicles used for different emergency situations were exhibited by the District Management of Rescue 1122 on this occasion.
Boy scouts from various local schools presented national songs and the participants recited national anthem to show their commitment to national solidarity. Member Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan while addressing the ceremony stressed upon the need to sensitise the new generation about the grand martyrdom embraced by one and a half million Muslims of the sub-continent.
He said, "we should acknowledge the grand sacrifices rendered by millions of Muslims during the Pakistan Movement and should pledge to follow the footsteps of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the great poet philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal who conceived the ideology of Pakistan.
The nation has passed through two phases of life which include the achievement of independence and fortifying the nation through detonating nuclear arsenals in 1998 under the able leadership of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. It was the right time to way forward for progress and prosperity as an invincible nation, he added. Earlier, MPAs Juel Aamir Sahutra and Khalil Tahir Sindhu elaborated the role of Christian community in Pakistan Movement and paid homage to Joshua Fazal Din, SP Singha and other Christian parliamentarians.
