Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that in order to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state in the real sense it is essential to eliminate extremism, terrorism, corruption, nepotism, Safarish and the unjust system. He said Pakistan could be made a developed and prosperous country as was envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal only through hard work and commitment.
He said Pakistan was created after a historic struggle and innumerable sacrifices but despite a passage of 65 years, the country had not been put in the right direction for which everybody was responsible. He said there was still time to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state in accordance with the ideals of Quaid and Iqbal but for this purpose mutual difference would have to be sunk and progress will have to be made in the right direction.
Unfortunately, he said, Pakistan that day was a beggar country but by adopting the principle of honesty, hard work and trust, the begging bowl could be broken and Pakistan could be made a donor country. He expressed those views while addressing the students at Government Postgraduate Girls Degree College Samanabad, after inaugurating e-library set up in the college with the co-operation of international computer company Dell, here on Tuesday.
He said that Dell was setting up 26 e-libraries in Punjab while it would also impart training to 100 boy and girl students in each districts of the province regarding the use of modern technology, adding that training of students would also be arranged in Malaysia and Turkey. He directed that out of the students who were receiving training, master trainers should also be prepared to impart training in modern knowledge to boy and girl students at the local level.
He said that 35,000 poor but intelligent students were getting education through Punjab Educational Endowment Fund and this was a historic achievement of Khadim-e-Punjab. He said that opportunities of quality education were being offered to the children of backward and far-flung areas of the province through setting up of Danish Schools. He said that lakhs of boy and girls students were benefiting from IT labs set up in more than 4,000 high schools of the province.
He said Punjab Education Endowment Fund was set up four years ago, while the mission of the establishment of Daanish schools was taken up three years ago and the distribution of laptops was started two years ago and these projects were paying rich dividends. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif further said that e-libraries were playing a significant role in imparting modern knowledge to boy and girl students, and advised the students to work hard and play their due role in national development.
Principal Government Postgraduate Girls Degree College Samanabad Dr Tasneem Akhtar in her speech gave the title of Maimar-e-Taleem to Chief Minister for bringing a revolution in education sector and said he had taken solid measures for the uplift of this sector. She paid rich tributes to Daanish Schools Project, Educational Endowment Fund, foreign visits of position-holder students, presentation of guard of honour to students and laptop distribution scheme.
