The law enforcement agencies on Tuesday made extraordinary security arrangements across the city for Independence Day to avert any untoward incident. All roads leading to the sensitive installations, shopping centres, big markets were put under tight security with a heavy police deployment.
The authorities have also deployed police and rangers in and around all the sensitive buildings including Parliament House, Presidency, Prime Minister's Secretariat, Supreme Court and Pak-Secretariat blocks. Police have conducted patrolling across the city as well as randomly checked vehicles having tinted glasses or suspicious number plates and noted their relevant particulars. Special police deployment were made at Blue Area, Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, sectors F-10 and F-11, I-10, Faizabad, Aabpara market.
A police official said that following the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) more than 500 policemen teams headed by zonal DSPs performed duties across the city. Under the security plan in big markets and shopping centres, two officers of inspector rank and one inspector in smaller markets monitored security arrangements. Lady police, lady commandoes have also performed security duties in the markets, while Falcon vehicles, teams of Quick Response Force (QRF) and Bravo vehicles were also put on high alert.
Similarly, policemen in plain clothes have also deputed at busy shopping centres and public places aimed at keeping close eye on suspected people and collect advance information. The strength of police at the entry and exit points of Islamabad was enhanced with strict checking of vehicles. Witnesses said that people arriving in the city through public transport were being strictly checked and searched by police.
