LAHORE: US Chargé d'affairs Angela P Aggeler separately met PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and Vice President Maryam Nawaz Thursday and exchanged views on Pak-US ties, regional situation and peace in the region, especially Afghanistan.
The US Charge d'affairs met Shehbaz Sharif at Model Town while meeting with Maryam Nawaz was held at Jati Umrah.
In the meeting with Shehbaz Sharif, steps taken under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif to end loadshedding, fight against terrorism and economic development during the PML-N era were discussed. Views were also exchanged on matters of mutual interest. Angela praised Shahbaz Sharif's services as Chief Minister Punjab. Earlier, Angela met Maryam Nawaz who was assisted by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Pervaiz Rashid, Khurram Dastgir, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Tariq Fatemi. During the meeting, various issues including the rights of women and children, their education and health and promotion of Pak-US relations were discussed.

Maryam Nawaz said on the occasion that they consider Afghanistan as their close neighbor and respect its sovereignty. "We want peace in the region, development and prosperity of the Afghan people, women and children and humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan." Extending good wishes to the US President and his government, she said Pakistan rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
The PML-N believes in democracy and wanted to strengthen democratic principles for creation of true democratic culture in Pakistan, she said. Later in the day, US Chargé d'affairs Angela P Aggeler visited the Wazir Khan Mosque. The US Mission to Pakistan has donated approximately Rs 239 million towards the restoration of Wazir Khan Mosque and the surrounding buildings.
