The district administration is carrying out a vigorous campaign against profiteers to curb price hike during Ramazan. It is learnt that up till now, special price magistrates conducted the 6,666 raids in various markets of the district. A total of 3,652 profiteers had been fined more than Rs 4 million.
As many as 44 cases had been lodged by the magistrates in different police stations against profiteers and 63 persons had so far been arrestedon charges of violating the Price Control Act. DCO Naseem Sadiq said that the operation against profiteers was continuing, adding that this had helped control the unjustified price hike of essential items and consumers were feeling relief because of these preventive measures.
