ISLAMABAD: The law enforcement agencies beefed up security as well as placed shipping containers on various roads in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, leading to the capital city to stop entry of long march of the banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Friday.

A number of containers have been placed at Faizabad, Murree Road, Liaqat Bagh, Fawara Chowk, Committee Chowk, and other areas as well as a heavy contingent of police and personnel of Rangers have been deployed to deal with the protesters.

TLP leader Pir Ajmal Qadri, while announcing the long march on Thursday last, said the peaceful procession would begin after Friday prayers to force the government to release TLP chief Saad Hussain Rizvi.

“If any hurdles are created, the party also has a “Plan B” to thwart any official attempts,” he told a charged crowd at a protest site in Lahore.

The authorities have also suspended Metro Bus Service in Rawalpindi, while a bus service will only operate from the IJP Road stop to the Pakistan Secretariat.

Due to blockage of roads, residents of twin cities faced difficulties in reaching their destinations.

Similarly, patients as well as ambulances remained stuck at Murree Road as the road had been sealed by containers.
