KARACHI: After an agreement with a Chinese company, an accord shall be inked to remove industrial waste from the city, especially from Korangi industrial area, and to clean roads and highways.

These views were expressed by Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Zubair Ahmed Channa on the occasion of his visit to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI).

He said that negotiations are also under way with the SITE Industrial Area and the SITE Association; however, KATI is the largest industrial area in the city with which they are committed to enter into agreements.

He said that 450 employees and 200 vehicles have been allocated for cleaning Korangi zone. A total of 1600 sweepers will work in Korangi only.

KATI President Salman Aslam thanked Sindh Solid Waste Management Board for the impending agreement on cleaning the industrial area.

He said that all possible steps must be taken for disposal of garbage and disposal of industrial waste in Korangi Industrial Area, besides installation of GPS system in vehicles transporting garbage to dumping site.

KITE office-bearers said that they will cooperate with Solid Waste Management Board for the beautification and cleanliness of the industrial area.

A separate committee has been set up in KATI which will soon work on the terms and clauses of the agreement in consultation with the members and the SSWMB. It was decided at the meeting that a formal MoU would be signed between KATI and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board after further details were worked out.
