KARACHI: A delegation of Pakistan Automobile Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association (PASPIDA) visited Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) and sought their support to rationalize the duty structure on auto parts.

Muhammad Ahsan, Chairman PASPIDA said that the duty on import of auto parts, which after adding other charges touches almost 90%. Such heavy duties are encouraging smuggling of auto parts in Pakistan which has made doing business and competing in the market extremely difficult for the registered businesses.

President KCCI Muhammad Idrees pledged full support to the genuine demands of PASPIDA. He also congratulated Muhammad Ahsan for taking charge as Chairman PASPIDA, Sindh Circle.

He said, “After assuming charge as President KCCI, I, along with my team, am constantly making efforts to resolve the problems being faced by the business community.” He said doing business has become quite challenging due to instability in dollar-rupee exchange rates; gas, electricity and water crises; customs and taxation related complexities and rising inflation. He said we must provide some relief and ease in doing business to our business community.

Arshad Islam, Patron-in-Chief PASPIDA Former SVP KCCI, thanked KCCI office-bearers for extending warm welcome to his delegation. He shared his concerns over exorbitantly high rates of taxes and customs duty imposed on import of automotive parts.

Muhammad Idrees also informed the delegation that they have started working on budget proposals. He asked the Muhammad Ahsan and Arshad Islam to submit their proposals on behalf of PASPIDA for the upcoming budget and assured to highlight the issues pertaining to the automotive sector.
