A 36-inch diameter main water line at Old Gharo pumping station burst on Thursday due to the power break down. According to officials at Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) this iron pipeline has been in use since 1943 and KWSB is unable to change it due to unavailability of cast-iron pipes.
However, repair work under progress in the supervision of Chief Engineer (Bulk) and supply would hopefully be resumed by midnight. Citizens of Karachi would face a shortage of 120 million gallons during next 24 hours.
