Due to effective strategy evolved by the provincial government aimed at dengue prevention and control, dengue situation is fully under control, while Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is personally monitoring the situation. This was stated by PML-N Lahore President Mohammad Parvez Malik while chairing a meeting to review steps taken by different departments for dengue prevention and control here at Singhpura on Thursday.
The PML-N leader said due to increased public awareness, community was also participating in dengue control measures. He said staff of all departments concerned performed duties during Eid holidays, whereas elected representatives also monitored anti-dengue arrangements personally during the days.
It may be noted that at present dengue situation was far better than the previous year. Last year, hundreds of people were affected due to dengue during the same period, whereas due to best preventive arrangements, now the situation was under control. However, this year, around 10 dengue cases have been reported so far.
The PML-N leader said that emergency response committees had been fully activated in nine towns in Lahore, adding that effective eradication of dengue mosquito was possible through elimination of its larvae; therefore, in case of finding dengue larvae, the sensitive places were being protected by adopting preventive measures. Malik said, after threats of existence of dengue larvae at industrial units, the industries department had been asked to ensure anti-dengue arrangements in the factories throughout the province, including Lahore.
