India successfully tested a nuclear-capable ballistic missile on Saturday from an eastern military base, defence officials said. The surface-to-surface missile with a range of 350 kilometres was fired from a test range at Chandipur in the state of Orissa, Defence Research and Development Organisation spokesman Ravi Gupta said.
The Prithvi-II missile is one of the five being developed by the DRDO under the country's Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme. "The test was made by the Strategic Forces Command and met all mission objectives," Gupta said. The medium-range missile can carry a 500-kilogram warhead.
