ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said, sadly with negligible, less than one percent contribution in the global carbon emission, Pakistan is in the list of top 10 countries most vulnerable to climate change.
Addressing a gathering after witnessing the signing ceremony of a joint statement between the Ministry of Climate Change and the World Bank on Tuesday, the prime minister said that the countries which are responsible for climate change had not realised initially about its consequences, adding he was hearing from the people in rural and hilly areas 20 to 25 years ago that the weather was getting warmer. Now the world is realising that climate change would have a negative impact for the entire world and have vowed to take meaningful measures against it at Glasgow conference on climate change.
The prime minister said that Pakistan has to be very careful about climate change and have to take measures to prevent it for the future generations, because it is dangerous for the country’s glaciers. Global warming has been melting the country’s glaciers and creating pollution.
While referring to ‘10 billion tsunami tree campaign’, he said that 10 billion trees project is very important because forests are depleting rapidly in Pakistan.
There is a need to save the forests by planting trees and preserving national parks, rather these should be increased.

The prime minister said that 15 new national parks have been declared by the present government and for their look after, local people would be hired.
The premier regretted that digital mapping disclosed that parks are being encroached upon.
He underlined the need to save the forests and to protect the cities because the way the cities are spreading it would be extremely challenging to provide them clean water facilities, sewage, etc.
The prime minister said also with the arrival of wildlife in DI Khan, the locals got employment opportunities and tourism also started developing. However, the Prime Minister’s Office said that after this agreement; Pakistan will be assisted in implementing the Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
