The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Geelani in occupied Kashmir has said that India is making attempts to rule the territory with its military might. Syed Ali Geelani addressing religious leaders and civil society members at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar asserted that he was not against Amarnath Yatra, but the influx of tens of thousands of yatris to Kashmir every year was the "state policy of New Delhi to show its people that Kashmir belongs to India," KMS reported.
He warned the Indian government of serious consequences if it made any attempt to change the demography of Kashmir by settling non-locals in the garb of labourers in the Valley in a planned manner.
India as a policy matter is allowing lakhs of Yatris to come to Kashmir. It is actually (being) done to show its people that Kashmir belongs to India. Coming of six lakh yatris should be read well. Indian Supreme Court is pushing for construction of road (in the territory). BJP wants to construct road up to the cave shrine. Congress plans are no different.
They want to raise the moral of Indian army. They want to tell us that we are here and are not going to leave us," the veteran leader added. "Four lakh migrant workers are residing in Kashmir. If the trend of influx of non-local labourers will continue, we will turn into a minority in our own land in a few years," he charged. He also asked the people to stay away from the army-organised tours and cultural programmes at educational institutions. An accord of brotherhood was signed by 24 heads of religious organisation across the territory pledging that unity will be maintained at any cost.
