PESHAWAR: The exporters and importers doing business with Afghanistan have welcomed the government’s decision to increase the number of export items to Afghanistan from 4 to 16 in Pakistani currency to enhance the quantum of trade with the neighbouring country.

The traders hoped the export to Afghanistan would further improve after this important decision of the government of Pakistan.

However, they urged Islamabad to expedite the negotiation process with the present Afghan government regarding promotion of barter trade and bring it into logical end and practicality.

These matters were discussed during a meeting between IGFC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Maj-Gen Adil Yamin and a traders’ delegation, mostly exporters, that was led by the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry acting president Imran Khan Mohmand, according to statement issued here on Sunday. The delegation was consisted SCCI’s standing committee on Pak-Afghan Bilateral and Transit Trade Promotion chairman Shahid Hussain, former president Faiz Muhammad Faizi, PAJCCI Vic president and the chamber former senior vice presindet Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, pattern in chief Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, former president Khyber Chamber Shakirullah, Col Sadiq (retd) and others.

The DG IGFC and Commandant Khyber Rifle were also present during the meeting. The meeting discussed the administrative matters, bringing speediness in movement of export-goods laden vehicles, hurdles that were impeding Pak-Afghan bilateral and transit trade.

The SCCI delegation gave a comprehensive proposals and mechanisms to further improve Pak-Afghan bilateral trade and transit trade via Afghanistan.
