Public toilets under KMC would be constructed at various important locations including shopping centres and parks in the city. Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan said this while addressing a review meeting on public toilets, which was attended by Sr Director Municipal Services Dr Shaukat Zaman, Sr Director Parks & Horticulture Niaz Soomro, Sr Director Buildings Shamim Ahmed, Sr Director Law Najam-ud-din Sikandar and other high officials.
Matanat Ali Khan said that public toilets project would be carried out in collaboration with the CPLC and in this connection Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed had signed a memorandum of understanding whereas CPLC would also sign it soon. He said that five DMCs would construct 600 and KMC would construct 200 public toilets at important locations in the city.
He further said that following the directives of Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, KMC and all DMCs would jointly complete this project. He also said that preference for public toilets project had been given to those areas which were regarded as busy places especially shopping centres and parks.
He also informed that in the next phase of this project KMC schools would also be included in this project. CPLC Chief Ahmed Chenoy said the project would start soon after the signing of MoU in this connection. Metropolitan Commissioner said that broken public toilets would also be reconstructed with the facilities of light, water, sewerage and cleanliness for public use.
He also said that public toilets facility was an important necessity for the citizens and this facility was provided all over the world on important locations including parks, picnic points, markets and other public places. He said CPLC had also ensured the inclusion of cantonment boards in this project, adding that NOCs from all district corporations and KW&SB had been obtained.-PR
