ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Monday administered the oath of office to Justice Ayesha A Malik of Lahore High Court (LHC) as a judge of the apex court in a simple and dignified ceremony.
The judges of the Supreme Court, the attorney general for Pakistan, senior lawyers, law officers, and officers of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan attended the ceremony.
Justice Ayesha becomes first woman SC judge
Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan conducted the proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court of Pakistan were also present. President Dr Arif Alvi on January 21 appointed Justice Ayesha A Malik as the judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Justice Ayesha is the first female judge, elevated to the Supreme Court, which is said to be an important step towards improving gender diversity in judiciary. She holds a Master in Laws (LLM) from the Harvard Law School, USA.
