ISLAMABAD: Following a significant increase in the fuel prices, the prices of all the essential kitchen items have witnessed an increasing trend during this week past as compared with the last week, a survey carried out by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
The survey observed Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) price went up from Rs 2,800 per 15kg cylinder to Rs 3,000 which in retail is being sold at Rs220 per kg against Rs200 per kg.
In the wholesale market, sugar price witnessed an increase of Rs250 per 50kg bag, which jumped from Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,250 per bag, while in retail; sugar is being sold at Rs95 per kg.
Chicken prices registered an increase of Rs800 per 40kg, which went up from Rs 8,000 per 40kg to Rs 8,800 per 40kg, while in retail, chicken is being sold at Rs 235 per kg against Rs 215 per kg, and chicken meat price jumped from Rs340 per kg to Rs360 per kg. Eggs prices witnessed an increase as it went up from Rs 4,100 per carton to Rs 4,200 per carton, which in retail are being sold at Rs160 per dozen.
Prices of all the pulses also witnessed an upward trend as fine quality maash is being sold at Rs330 per kg against Rs320 per kg, best quality lentil at Rs225 per kg against Rs215 per kg, best quality bean lentil at Rs320 per kg, masoor at Rs240 per kg against Rs220 per kg, whole gram at Rs240 per kg against Rs220 per kg, best quality whole gram at Rs230 per kg, and moong price has jumped from Rs155 per kg to Rs170 per kg.
B-grade cooking oil prices has crossed Rs 5,000 per carton of 16 packs, which in retail is being sold at Rs330 per kg against Rs220 per pack of 900 grams. Normal quality cooking oil such as Phool, Meezan, and such other brands prices have also witnessed a significant increase as it has jumped from Rs 3,500 per carton of 12 pack to Rs 3,900, which in retail is being sold at Rs350 per pack of 900 grams. Prices of best quality cooking oil/ghee brands such as Dalda price went up from Rs 2,110 per 5 litres to Rs 2,130 per 5 litre and mustard oil price is stable at Rs425 per kg. Tea Lipton Yellow Label price has witnessed an increase of Rs20 per pack of 500 grams from Rs580 per 500-gram pack to Rs600.
In the wholesale market, wheat flour price went down from Rs 1,110 per 15kg bag to Rs 1,070 per 15kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 1,000-1,120 per 15kg against Rs 1,130. While government-sponsored wheat flour bag of 20kg is available Rs 1,170 per bag. The suppliers of packed spices such as Shan and National have further reduced the packing size from 43 grams to 25 grams, while are charging Rs80 and Rs75 per pack of various spices. A year ago, 43-gram pack was available on the same price. Powder chillis price went up from Rs450 per kg to Rs465 per kg and powder turmeric prices from Rs380 per kg to Rs400 per kg.
Milk prices witnessed no change as Dairy Omang is available at Rs35 per 200 milliliter pack, Milk Pak and Olpers one litre pack price is stable at Rs165 per pack, 750 milliliter Milk Pak and Olpers price is also stable at Rs130 per pack, 200 milliliter milk pack price is stable at Rs45. Milk creams such as Olpers and Milk Pak prices also remained unchanged at Rs135 per pack.
During the week under review, prices of various brands of rice remained unchanged as best quality Basmati rice is available at Rs 7,800 per 40kg bag, which in retail is being sold at Rs205-210 per kg. While Broken Basmati is available at Rs 4,200 per 40kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs125 per kg against Rs120 per kg. However, within the past one month, rice prices have witnessed an increase of Rs 1,000 per 40kg bag.
Overall vegetables prices witnessed an increasing trend as potato price went up from Rs170 per 5kg to Rs200 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs45 per kg. Onions price went up from Rs160 per 5kg to Rs175 per 5kg, which in the retail is available at Rs40 per kg and tomato price went up from Rs500 per 5kg to Rs530 per 5 kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs125 per kg against Rs120 per kg. Peas price went up from Rs90 per kg to Rs100 per kg, Chinese garlic price went down from Rs450 per kg to Rs430 per kg, ginger price remained stable at Rs250 per kg, fresh bean went down from Rs140 to Rs125 per kg, capsicum went up from Rs150 per kg to Rs200 per kg, green chillis went up from Rs150 to Rs190per kg, pumpkin went up from Rs115 per kg to Rs140 per kg, brinjal price went up from Rs120 per kg to Rs125 per kg, yam price went up Rs65 per kg to Rs70 per kg, cauliflower price went up from Rs65 per kg to Rs70 per kg and cabbage price went is stable at Rs75 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed a mixed trend as Iranian Kalakilo apple price jumped down from Rs250 per kg to Rs240 per kg, Pakistan Kalakilo apple price is stable at Rs200 per kg, golden apple price went up from Rs150 per kg to Rs160 per kg, and white apple price went up from Rs120 per kg to RS125 per kg. Best quality banana price went down from Rs160 per dozen to Rs150 per dozen while normal is being sold in the range of Rs90-120 per dozen, guava price went up from Rs100 per kg to Rs110 per kg, best quality oranges price went up from Rs200 per dozen to Rs225 per dozen and pomegranate price went up from Rs280 per kg to Rs300 per kg.
