Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil has said that Lowari Tunnel is a project of great value, not only for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but for the whole country and the present democratic government of PPP is determined to complete this project at all costs. Presiding over a high-level meeting he said that the Ministry of Communications is bringing all possible resources into use so that the construction work on the tunnel is started.
Chairman, NHA Syed Mohammad Ali Gardezi, Member Admn Naseer Ahmad Rana and Member Construction Yousaf Ali Khan and other high officials were also present. Arbab Alamgir Khan said that this project was launched by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and now the present PPP government has the credit to initiate development projects in Chitral. He said that Lowari Tunnel will not only strengthen communication between Afghanistan and Central Asian States but it will also facilitate trade, tourism, industry and agriculture in the region and ultimately boost the economy.
The Federal minister said that Chitral is a PPP stronghold and its people are partisan PPP supporters and adore the Bhutto family. The Federal Minister urged the Chairman NHA and other officials to expedite all matters related to Lowari Tunnel so that construction work on the project is resumed and a longstanding demand of the people of Chitral is fulfilled. Arab Alamgir Khan said that the present democratic government under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is making efforts to bring the underdeveloped areas at par with the developed ones.
