The Negative List will be phased out by December 31, 2012 after approval by the Cabinet. He said that Negative List of 1209 items has been notified by the Ministry of Commerce vide its SRO No 280 dated March 20, 2012. The Negative List will be phased-out by December 31, 2012 after approval by the Cabinet.
He said that the Negative List contains a total of 385 items of the auto sector. Out of these, only 19 are different types of automobiles/vehicles, the remaining 366 items are primarily auto components for vehicles, he said. The vehicles in the Negative list do not fall just in the inexpensive category but reflect a mix of various types and price range vehicles, he added. In this context, the Negative List includes "vehicles of a cylinder capacity exceeding 1000cc but not exceeding 1300cc"; hence inexpensive vehicles under 1000cc are importable from India, he said.
The minister said that there are 49 items of Pharma sector in Negative List. These include mostly finished products. He said that these finished products have been added in the list to protect the local manufacturers. Other than these 49 items, the rest of medicines and raw material are importable from India, he said.
