Sindh government on Wednesday issued directives to concerned Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to remain on high alert and take immediate measures to avoid huge physical and financial losses in the wake of rains, Business Recorder has learnt.
Official sources told BR that Sindh Relief Department has issued letters to all Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) asking them to remain on high alert and take immediate measures to cope with possible disaster. The letters have been sent to DCs of Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Dadu, Khairpur Mir's, Sukkur, Naushehroferoze, Jamshoro and others, they said.
Sources said the Relief Department has also received reports of monsoon rains from all over the province. Rains have mostly hit the Mirpurkhas Division, sources added. According to rainfall report compiled by local administration of Mirpurkhas, 12 mm rain was recorder in Mirpurkhas, 43 mm in Sindhri, 12 mm in H.B Mari, 8 mm in Jhuddo, 06 mm in Sanghar, 10 mm in Khipro, 3 mm in Sinjhoro, 11 mm in Tando Adam, 9 mm in Shahdadpur, 20 mm in Jam Nawaz Ali, 16 mm in Umerkot, 13 mm in Pithroro, 3 mm in Mithi, 04 mm in Chhachhro and 11 mm in Nangarparkar area.
The Relief Department, keeping in view the situation of late monsoon rains, has issued letters to all districts administrations that fell victims to heavy rains of 2011 and Super Floods of 2010, sources said. Haleem Adil Shaikh, Advisor to chief Minister for Relief told Business Recorder that he was personally looking after the affairs of drought and now supervising the situation of late monsoon rains as any unprecedented situation would be controlled swiftly.
