The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to submit detailed reports of inquiries into allegations of embezzlement in illegal sale of properties of Pakistan embassies in Japan and Indonesia till October 11.
Earlier the NAB through its counsel submitted a primarily inquiry report about the sale of Pakistan embassy in Japan and stated that then ambassador Kamran Niaz had illegally sold the building of Pakistan embassy against 49 million US dollars. He said the former ambassador had invested the earned money in a private steel mill.
The chief justice expressed dismay when the NAB counsel said inquiry into the sale of Pakistan embassy in Indonesia had not been carried out so far. Dr Qaiser Rashid had filed this petition against alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of billions of rupees by selling the building of these embassies. He said the LHC on April 15, 2011 while disposing of his petition had directed the director general, NAB to hold inquiry into the allegations within 60 days.
He alleged that the NAB authorities had failed to hold and conclude the inquiry and as such violated the court order for which they should be tried and punished. In his main petition, he submitted that Musharraf sold the property gifted by the Indonesian president Soekarno to Pakistan but was sold under the pretext of a directive issued by the chief executive General Pervaiz Musharraf (Retd) in peanuts. He requested to declare the sale of these properties as illegal and against public interest.
