Ameer, Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hassan, has said that an immediate announcement of an agreed interim set up to hold general elections is vital for controlling the worsening situation in Balochistan, Sindh and other parts of the country. He said that no body would buy President Zardari's idea of local government elections at this stage and such a step would only lead to chaos and add to lawlessness in Balochistan and Sindh.
Syed Munawar Hassan said that the masses wanted to get rid of the present rulers at every cost and they won't allow postponement or delay of the polls. If the PPP and its allies adopted any delaying tactics, the public wrath against them could take any turn, he warned. The JI Ameer stressed upon the rulers to change their attitude of indifference regarding Balochistan and try to find out a political solution of the problem. Alleging that certain elements within the government were trying to further complicate the Balochistan issue, he said that such people must be exposed and taken to task.
The policy of finding a military solution of the issue should be given up and way should be paved for a dialogue with the Baloch leadership, he added. Syed Munawar Hassan agreed with the remarks of the Supreme Court that there was harassment among the people because of ongoing terrorism, subversive activities and target killings in the province and the people were forced to leave their homes.
