Students hailing from different tribal agencies staged a protest demonstration here outside press club on Wednesday against the drone attacks, demanding of the government to immediate halt the Nato supply to Afghanistan otherwise the tribesmen will start frequent protest demonstrations outside parliament.
The students were led by the leaders of Fata Students Federation (FSF), including Haroon Luqman, Shafiq Ahmed Safi and Gul Satar Mengal. Earlier, the students marched from Saddar and gathered near the press club. The protestors were shouting against the killing of innocent people in parts of Fata in the drone attacks and asked the government to stop the barbarism. They also raised voice against the military operations and asked for an end to the dislocation of tribal people. Talking to reporters they said that Fata was already in worse conditions due to shortage of basic facilities while drone strikes had further increased their headache owing and thus tribal people considered themselves completely unsafe.
The elected representatives from tribal belt, they added were silent on drone strikes and did not take interest in the solution of tribal masses, saying that Fata secretariat and political administration did not cooperate with tribal students. "Parliament has unanimously adopted a resolution regarding the drone strikes but no action was taken and the resolution remained only to parliament house," they lamented and added that the Fata MPs should feel their responsibilities.
The students demanded of the government to ensure the establishment of technical educational institutions in tribal areas, stop drone attacks and provide job opportunities to educated tribesmen. They also appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take notice on emergency basis regarding the drone strikes and issues being faced by tribal peoples.
