KARACHI: A new heat wave is expected to hit various parts of the country this week with increase in temperatures, according to the Met Office.

The daytime temperatures are likely to remain high in most parts of the country during next 4 to 5 days.

Day temperatures in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Sindh and eastern Balochistan are expected to rise significantly above normal levels.

Occasional dust storm may also occur during afternoon and evening hours.

The heat wave is likely to be followed by the rain spell in upper and central parts of the country.

Dry period and heat wave conditions in the country may cause water stress for the standing crops, vegetable and orchards.

“General public is advised not to venture in the direct sunlight. Precautions should be taken to avoid heatstroke”, the Met said.

This accentuates the power crisis But people have to understand the Capacity charges, in the context of Pakistan Power capacities are planned, on the PEAK LOAD concept - which is in the period of intense heat During the other months of the year - the base load power plants operate (coal / renewables etc.) Peak load power is Gas/Oil and Hydro and possibly, CSP EVEN IN THE US - PEAK LOAD TARIFFS ARE 100USD/WATT - BUT THAT IS ONLY FOR THE POWER SHORTFALL ! IN PAKISTAN - THE SCENE IS DIFFERENT 1 - Y SHOULD A BASE LOAD POWER PLANT GET A CAPACITY CHARGE ? IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE RUNNING 2- NO BASE LOAD POWER POWER PLANT IN PAKISTAN SHOULD HAVE AN EXCUSE "NOT TO OPERATE" SO THAT THE PAKISTAN GRID HAS TO BUY EXPENSIVE GAS OR OIL BASED POWER (WHICH IS WHAT IS HAPPENING ,AS THE IPPs ARE A CARTEL) 3.NOW THE PEAK LOAD POWER PLANTS WILL BE SHUT DOWN OR HAVE A LOW PLF DURING THE NON-PEAK MONTHS. BUT THE CAPACITY CHARGES HAVE TO BE PAID ONLY FOR A PLF BELOW A LIMIT. dindooohindoo

The Capa charges being paid to the Peak Load IPPs, are exorbitant, & should be benchmarked across the world - starting with the US Only for SUSTAINED operation of the power plant BELOW a PLF, should the IPP get the Capacity charge. Even if the capacity charges are minimised, they represent the cost of meeting 100% of PEAK LOAD DEMAND - & that is NOT an option in Pakistan THESE BILLIONS OF USD ON CAPA CHARGES COULD BE SPENT ON EDUCATION - SAY,IT EDUCATION,IT EDUCATION IS A 2-3 EDUCATION - WHICH GETS A 35-40 YEAR REVENUE STREAM IF THE INDIANS CAN PRODUCE CYBER COOLIES - PAKISTAN CAN DO BETTER. WHAT SKILL IS REQUIRED TO PRODUCE AN IT CODER ? THE GOP SHOULD PREPARE A WHITE PAPER ON THE CAPA CHARGES PAID BY IPP,FUEL SOURCE,NAMES OF PROMOTER & RESIDUAL LIFE OF IPP GOP HAS TO HAMMER DOWN THE PEAK LOAD DEMAND. BILLIONS IN CAPA CHARGES ARE BEING PAID - JUST TO SATISFY THE CONSUMER PEAK LOAD DEMAND - FOR ACs AT NIGHT IN SUMMERS.FEW FACTORIES RUN AT NIGHT. 100% TAX ON ACs will do it
