The government has devised a comprehensive action plan to deal with overloading on motorways and highways, which is responsible for destroying roads. This was stated by Inspector General (IG) National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Zafar Abbas Lak while talking to the office-bearers of All Pakistan Goods Transport Association and All Pakistan Car Carrier Association here on Thursday.
"Overloading would not be allowed on motorways and highways and an action plan has been devised to combat overloading, said IG, adding that overloading was responsible for destroying national roads and was extremely dangerous for national economy. The delegation was led by Khalid Khan, President Goods Transport Association, while others included SVP Malik Sher Khan; Shoaib Khan, General Secretary; President Car Carrier Association Shehbaz But; Imdad Naqvi General Secretary; President Punjab Goods Trasnport Association Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary and Raja Asif from Rawalpindi.
Sharing his views with the office-bearers of Goods Transport Association and Car Carrier Association, he said roads were the backbone of national economy therefore, "it is our collective responsibility to save those." Khalid Khan and other office-bearers assured the IGP that their association was against the overloading and strong action against overloaded vehicles should be taken irrespective of any vehicle. The IGP assured them that no overloaded vehicle from Karachi to Peshawar would be allowed to enter on motorways & highways and said special measures had been taken at Karachi toll plaza to return back overloaded vehicles.
