The Economic Co-ordination Committee of the Cabinet was informed that majority of its decisions taken during the last four and half years have been implemented. The Secretary Cabinet has reportedly submitted a detailed report stating that 744 decisions were taken by the ECC during the last four years and 665 of them have been implemented by the concerned ministries and divisions.
The average implementation status of the ECC decisions during four and half years was 89 percent. The ECC meeting was presided over by Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Sources said the Ministry of Petroleum reportedly submitted to the ECC that its decision regarding allocation of 75 mmcfd gas from Makori field to SNGPL has been implemented. The ministry stated that the ECC decision was conveyed to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
The Ministry of Finance stated that the ECC, the highest economic decision making forum, comprises 16 federal ministers and other senior officials/members from different divisions and ministries have also been inviting senior officials from provincial governments for discussion on agenda items of their concern. The ECC is mandated to consider and take decisions on all urgent economic matters in co-ordination with economic policies initiated by various divisions of the federal government.
According to the Finance Ministry, the ECC has taken a number of decisions during last four and half years for improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the masses. Ramazan package, ban on CNG to provide uninterrupted gas supply to household consumers and donation of wheat to poor and malnourished people of Pakistan through the World Food Programme are some of them which need mention. Moreover, the funding to Wapda for water sector projects, sugar export to Tajikistan, financial assistance to Pakistan Steel Mills are the few decisions recently taken by the ECC. All decisions taken by the ECC were subsequently endorsed by the federal cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, it added.
