The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday directed the Planning and Development Division to take concrete steps to improve its financial discipline, besides producing the list of officers who had gone on foreign tours and training programmes.
The Committee, which met here under the chair of Nadeem Afzal Gondal, expressed displeasure over the delay in releasing funds for the development schemes and directed that the uplift funds must be released on time so that all identified projects could be completed within the stipulated time.
Responding to questions of the committee members, it was informed that around Rs 360 billion was allocated for the development projects of the federal government in the year 2012-13. The Secretary Planning said that up to 191 projects were identified during the current fiscal, but only 81 projects were scheduled to be completed during this period.
The PAC directed the Ministry of Defence to submit a detailed report on the National Logistics Cell within 15 days. It also directed that funds must be released to National Highway Authority so it can complete the ongoing work on different projects.
