On the occasion of a farewell reception for Masaharu Sato, Consul General of Japan on Saturday, he presented certificates of merit to four persons to recognise their distinguished service of contributing to the deepening friendship between Pakistan and Japan.
The recipients are Abdul Kader Jaffer, former Chairman of Pakistan Japan Business Forum; Mohammad Azmat Shigeyuki Ataka, Vice President of Pakistan Japan Cultural Association, Sindh (PJCA); Sadia Rashid, President of PJCA; and Dr Moinuddin Aqeel, former Visiting Professor of the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
Abdul Jaffer had been the President of Pakistan Japan Business Forum for more than six years and contributed to furthering business between the industrial and business communities of two countries and strengthening mutual understanding. This year, he also initiated an event to celebrate the 60 year anniversary of diplomatic relation between Pakistan and Japan.
Azmat Mohammad Shigeyuki Ataka had worked at the Consulate General of Japan at Karachi from 1979 to 2005. Recently he was awarded the President's Pride of Performance Award 2011 by the Government of Pakistan for promoting cultural ties between Pakistan and Japan. He has conducted a great many cultural events and continues to do so. One example is "Urdu Haiku Mushaira." Haiku is a Japanese poetry form and he introduced Urdu version of Haiku in Pakistan.
Sadia Rashid is the President of PJCA. The Consulate General of Japan has been collaborating with PJCA ever since its establishment to hold an array of Japanese cultural events. Above all, this year, to mark the 60 year anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Japan, PJCA held Japan Fest in March, where more than 3000 people visited. As President of PJCA, she has contributed in strengthening the cultural relationship between Pakistan and Japan tremendously
Moinuddin Aqeel stayed in Japan as a Visiting Professor from 1993 to 2008. He taught Urdu in several universities in Japan and contributed to the promotion of Urdu education in Japan. Also, during his stay, he taught Urdu to Japanese diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Now, as a member of PJCA, he has been involved in promoting cultural events in Karachi and has published a book about the trend of research about Pakistan and Urdu in Japan.
Masaharu Sato, Consul General of Japan, appreciated their efforts for providing business and cultural exchanges between Pakistan and Japan, and stressed that they are truly representatives of all of Pakistani friends for Japan. He added that this year is the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relation between Pakistan and Japan, and that this commemorable year has been flourished with the support of Pakistani friends like them.-PR
