State Minister for Water and Power, Tasneem Ahmed Qureshi, has said that there is 3364MW shortfall of electrify while the present demand is of 15434MW with generation capacity of 12070MW in the country. While replying to a supplementary question of the members of the National Assembly on Monday, he said that there was 15,434MW demand on Sunday while generation was 12,070MW.
He said that the demand of electricity has reduced to due to good weather and rainy season. He said that due to amendment by the Parliament, Nepra Act requires Regulatory Authority to review and adjust the fuel charges as part of consumer tariff on monthly basis. Accordingly, based on the actual consumption and price of the fuel used for generation in a month, the fuel cost component of the base tariff, which is determined on assessment basis for a year, is adjusted; (plus or minus), every month and notified by Nepra, he said.
Answering to supplementary question, he said that after raising of Mangla Dam by 30ft, water conservation level will be raised resulting in enhanced water storage capacity of the dam, which will generate additional energy of about 644GWh (120MW) per annum that is 12 percent increase in the present energy of 1000MW.
