The Karachi Port handled 122,097 tonnes of cargo comprising 81,303 tonnes of import cargo and 40,794 tonnes of export cargo including 3,453 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 81,303 tonnes comprised 16,270 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,446 tonnes of general cargo; 2,300 tonnes of rock phosphate and 57,287 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 40,794 tonnes comprised 28,648 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10 tonnes of general cargo; 10,136 tonnes of bulk cargo: 330 tonnes of cement; 334 tonnes of sugar; 9,472 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 2,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,453 containers comprising 1,003 containers import and 2,450 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 543 of 20's and 220 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 10 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 730 of 20's and 495 of 40's loaded containers while 256 of 20's and 237 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Three ships namely Jolly, Maliakos and Clipper Golfito carrying two container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz Anke, OEL Trust, MT Lahore, Stolt Markland and Captain Livanos with two container ships, two oil tankers and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths. Four ships namely OEL Trust, Lodestar Genesis Tabernacle Prince and MT Lahore carrying one container ship, one chemicals carrier, one cement carrier and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while another ship namely Captain Livanos with general cargo is expected to sail on Thursday.
Six vessels viz Rio Bravo, Courier, Safina-2, Chemroad Rose, Mandarin Fortune and King Merry with two container ships, one sugar carrier, one base oil tanker, one coal carrier and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while eight vessels viz R Sea, APL Sharjah, YM Tai Chung, Kota Anggerik, Glenda Meryl, Maria Star, Calmy Coral and Leeds Castle with four container ships, one mogas tanker, one fertiliser carrier, one general cargo ship and one talcum powder carrier respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
The total export cargo of 26,036 tonnes includes 1,550 tonnes of corn and 24,486 tonnes of containerised cargo. Two ships namely MT Akaki and MV Chembulk Neworiean carrying furnace oil and chemicals respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while three more ships namely CV Nedlloyd Tasman, CV Maersk Kingston and CV Al-Noof with containers are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of six vessels viz CV Nedlloyd Tasman, CV Maersk Kingston, CV Al-Noof, MV Ananya Naree, MT Akaki and MV Chembulk Neworiean are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, corn, furnace oil and chemicals respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as five ships namely CGM Strauss, Genie, Arietis, Nenus Triumph and Asphalt Merchant with containers, furnace oil, crude oil, project cargo and buthmen respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Three vessels viz CGM Strauss, Arietis and Asphalt Merchant with containers, crude oil and buthmen respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-1) respectively on Wednesday.
