Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Thursday demanded stern action against responsible persons for unprecedented fire incident at Baldia Town that gulped the lives of hundreds of innocents. Talking to media during his visit to incident place, Imran said he came here to express his sympathy with bereaved families and asserted ineffective laws for Baldia fire incident, saying that discriminative laws for the poor caused to have desolated some 300 houses.
He said that 100 industrial incidents were reported in a year, due to labour law flaws and government indifference. Moreover, he said the factory owners exploited poor labourers by hiring them on contracts and added that there were no rights for the poor class in the country. He urged the authorities to review the safety standards in industries, saying that the government should take stern action to ensure implementation of safety measures in the factories across the country.
On a question, he refused to comment on Sindh People's Local Government Ordinance but offered his support for people of Sindh on this issue. Chief PTI said the government officials instead of taking efforts to implement industrial laws were busy in greasing the palms that led such incidents. He condemned the Baldia fire incident and demanded the authorities to take responsible persons to task. He also appealed for providing compensation to bereaved families for their unbearable losses.
Later, he participated in Quran recitation at a local Masjid and offered Fateha for fire victims. Dr Arif Alvi, Nadir Laghari, Imran Ismail, Hafizuddin, Ashraf Qureshi, Subhan Ali Sahil, Faisal Wavda, Jamal Siddiqui, Dawa Sabir and others were also present on the occasion.
