More than 2,000 farmers organised a rally in Multan, which began from Madni Chowk and reached at Chowk Nawan Shehr, to protest against the inflated electricity bills describing them unfair and unjust. The rally was led by PPP's MPA DR. Akhtar Malik, Tehreek-i-Insaaf's Aamer Khalil Sheikh, Kisan Ittehad's Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar.
The tension between the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) and tube-well consumers intensified because Mepco authorities have announced a crackdown against the defaulters of Rs 1300 million and decided to disconnect the connections. The protestors vowed not to pay the inflated bill and continue registered their protest till the withdrawal of revised power tariff.
The farmers were allegedly instigated by PML-N and PTI leaders but PPP MPA also joined the protest who asked them not to pay bills of more than one billion rupees because these were inflated and unjust. Shakil Chaudhry claimed that the tube-well consumers owed Mepco Rs 1.30 billion and an operation was launched against them.
