Pakistan on Friday reiterated its principled position on Kashmir, saying it seeks a just solution to the long-standing dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of Kashmir. Responding to some media reports quoting Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Chairman Hurriyet Conference, regarding Pakistan stance on Kashmir, Foreign Office Spokesman Moazzam Ahmad Khan said that there is no change in Pakistan's principled position on Kashmir.
"Pakistan seeks a just solution to this issue in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of Kashmir. This issue cannot be side-stepped and has been duly emphasised in all bilateral talks with India including the talks held recently at the Foreign Ministers levels in Islamabad", he said.
He also said that Pakistan holds Geelani in high esteem and greatly values his contributions to the Kashmir cause. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, in a statement on Wednesday felt deviation in Pakistan stance over the issue of Kashmir and also asked Pakistani people to explain whether the change in their government's policy vis-à-vis Kashmir issue is with their consent or it is a unilateral decision of a single political party, the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
