ISLAMABAD: Senators from the former federal ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have strongly demanded that their colleague Azam Swati be released immediately and his production order be issued by Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani to allow him to appear in today’s (Friday’s) session of the upper house of the Parliament.

“No time should be wasted in releasing him (Swati)—and his production order be issued forthwith—without any delay,” demanded Leader of the Opposition in Senate Dr Shahzad Waseem, speaking to media along with a group of PTI senators on Thursday. Ejaz Chaudhry, Fida Muhammad Khan, Waleed Iqbal, Seemee Ezdi, Fawzia Arshad, Humayun Mohmand, and Shibli Faraz were among the PTI senators who accompanied the Senate opposition leader.

Swati explained tothe Sessions Court how he was subjected to the worst custodial torture, Waseem stated.

“Tyranny has touched its peak in the ongoing stint of this government—whether it’s Shehbaz Gill, Saifullah Nyazee or Azam Swati—nobody is safe from the “evil shadow” of this “imported puppet ”government,” the senator deplored.

“The hands of these rulers are around the necks of parliamentarians—what to talk about an ordinary Pakistani—might is right here—jails are filled with smaller thieves and bigger thieves are enjoying top positions in government,” the opposition leader continued to deplore.

“Democracy is being suppressed—democratic representatives are being crushed,” Waseem lamented.

He said that the entire nation was united under the leadership of Imran Khan against this “imported federal government.” Speaking on the occasion, Faraz said, Swati is a four-time federal minister. “He is a 76-year-old man who has served on coveted positions. The sanctity of his residence was violated by midnight raid—only this government is responsible for this boundless brutality,” he deplored.

“Our government was giving best performance in terms of governance but it was removed through conspiracies,” Faraz alleged.

“We have no idea where he (Swati) has been kept. He should be recovered and sanctity of Senate be restored— this is not the first incident and I am afraid this is not the last one either,” the former information minister remarked.
