ISLAMABAD: Frontier Constabulary will provide security as first-tier responder, whereas, Pakistan Rangers and Frontier Corps would be deployed as Quick Response Force (QRF) to provide security as second-tier responder and Pakistan Army would be assigned third-tier security as QRF — for three days — from Saturday (today) till Monday — for the by-elections on October 16, the electoral body notified on Friday.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), through the notification, authorised the deployment of Frontier Constabulary as a first-tier responder outside the polling stations from October 15 to 17.
Pakistan Rangers (Punjab and Sindh), and Frontier Corps (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) would be QRF for the second-tier security and Pakistan Army has been assigned third-tier security as QRF under Article 220 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
This article provides that it shall be the duty of all executive authorities in the federation and in the provinces to assist the ECP in the discharge of its functions.
